Week 5 Tutorials

1. How to Create a Website Mascot
http://vector.tutsplus.com/tutorials/illustration/how-to-create-a-web-site-mascot/

I thought this was very cute so i decide to draw one myself. My mascot is a girl soccer team.

This was fun! Even though it took forever. I enjoyed it and wanna do something again. Maybe with more details. I did try to add shadow on her skin and clothes but its hard to see with this tiny photo so did a close up screen shot. This tutorial did not help much with the computer designing part so i actually had to go back to a tutorial i had in week 3 or so do help me. That tutorial was really helpful.

2. Digitally Collage a camouflage paper

This was cool looking so i decided to check it out. In the tutorial the creator used a Mask and because we did something like this in class for the art buildings, i was familiar with the term. OR ELSE I would of been lost. I hate not knowing those terms, makes it heard to understand these tutorials. There should be a tutorial for that. A list of what everything is and what it does. I thought this tutorial was fairly simple.

3. Turning a photo into Lichtenstein Style Pop Art
http://vector.tutsplus.com/tutorials/illustration/turning-a-photo-into-lichtenstein-style-pop-art-with-illustrator/

I love how you can take a photo of a person and transform it into a cartoon character on photoshop. I'm sure everybody wants to know how they would look as a cartoon! I know i would. This is a little different from other cartoon tutorials ive seen. This one has more of a comic thing to it. The texture is different. Personally i don't like the little dots, i dont know why but i just dont like how it looks.

4. How to Create Vector Texture from Scratch
http://vector.tutsplus.com/tutorials/designing/how-to-create-a-vector-texture-from-scratch/

When i read the title i thought it was going to be like using tools on illustrator and creating the texture BUT it was from actual tools like paint, paper, scissors! I thought this tutorial was okay... I could apply it to my 118 project which is good.

5. Role of Sketching in the Design Process
http://psd.tutsplus.com/tutorials/drawing/the-role-of-sketching-in-the-design-process/

This was somewhat helpful. it sounds easy, just sketch and than recreate it on illustrator or Photoshop. But just the first step alone can be hard. Now i know that drawing is important to graphic designers. I want to take a drawing class for cartoons now. I think it would benefit me in the long run.
